UWCT & Thanyapura Christmas Fair Preparation The students had a busy week making Christmas decorations for the Christmas trees and they spent time practising for their performance. We were so proud of our Preschool students performing on stage with a huge crowd! Thank you all for your support with the Christmas Fair. Class Activities and Play The students explored letter sound of the week 'Mm'. They did marble painting, meal crafts, and baking muffins! Through these activities, they develop creativity, they learn to take turns and share materials as well as develop their fine motor skills. Field Trip to Vanich Farm It was a great sunny day when Preschool students went to Vanich Farm. They saw many interesting living things and observed how they were taken care of by the people in the farm. Special thanks to Keli (Beau's mum) our class ambassador who helped the class on my behalf. Literacy Activities What starts with the letter "Rr"? The children created their own robots using rectangle shapes! We made rainbow rice for our sensory play and a yummy rainbow crepe. Fun in the Water! Number Bingo Game Once a week, we play number bingo to develop our number recognition skills. Collaborative Painting with Grade 3 Buddies Preschool students were asked to think of living things and their buddies drew for them. They helped paint the pictures together. Unit of Inquiry - Living Things
We planted in the garden as part of our unit of inquiry and ECC planting week. We sorted pictures of living and non living things. How do we know if it's a living thing? Unit of Inquiry We have started our new unit of inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme of 'Sharing the planet'. As part of our pre-assessment and provocation, we went on a nature walk. We looked for living and non living things and recorded what we observed. We also went to Thanyapura to get some tadpoles and fish. Mathematics We made rocket ships to show how we can count backwards from 10. We named and identified the numbers and put them in order. P.E with Kru Garett, Kru Bow and Kru Lydsey. They went through different stations and enjoyed the activities. Exploring letter sound 'Ee' Each week we focus on one sound and we introduce this through arts and crafts. We try to link the letter sound of the week through cooking or baking. Please let me know if you are keen to cook/bake with our class linking to our letter sound of the week. Last week we made elephant crafts, read the Elmer stories, we cooked our own egg omelette and we did elephant or Elmer face/leg painting. ![]() Please look through the photos with your child. Discuss what's happening in the photos. Field Trip to Khao Phra Thaew National Park We went to the national park and the children had a great time playing and exploring the nature. Attitudes: Appreciation, confidence, curiosity, respect. Here are a few quotes from the children's reflection: What I did in the rainforest? What was my favourite? Chase: “I went to the jungle and I saw a cute puppy. My favourite is I really like the water and it was so cold.” Beau: “I love having a picnic in the jungle and playing with Kai. I saw a dog and an old house. We went to on a school bus and we fly kites. I saw a golden spider, a centipede and many ants.” Maia: I went to the jungle and I saw ants and caterpillars. The paths that we walk in have many red ants. I liked when I touch the water in the stream.” Kai: “I saw a waterfall then I touched the water and it was so cold. My favourite was flying my kite with Beau.” Angus: “I walk in the jungle. I saw some ants, river, and caterpillar. I found 2 dogs and a little puppy. I love the water in the river.” Melissa: "I was scared of the red ants." Gabriel: “I went to the jungle with my friend Dragon. I saw many ants with a leaf on their back and they will eat it. I love going in the school van.” Bonus: “I play with Mandy, Ashley and Ameli.” Tycoon: " I like to go to the jungle and I want to see the monkey and lion." Mandy: "I see the snails, ants and many trees. I see a waterfalls and I touched the water. I see some garbage." Ashley: “In the jungle I fell down and I did not cry. I need to hold Ameli’s hand. I walk and I see a snail.” Ameli: “I go to the jungle. First I walk with my friends, then I saw the water and I touch it. I saw a rabbit.” Dragon: "I touched the water and it was very cold. I decided to play a little bit, and then I saw a really big anthill. Then I just looked at it, I tiptoed when I walk past. I watched the spider and I fly a kite. I saw lots of animals on the picture.” Classroom Explorations Our letter sound of the week was 'Kk'. We made kites and we flew them at the national park. We enjoyed making fruit kebabs. We looked through a picture book of letter k and drew pictures on our sound book. Unit of Inquiry - Summative Assessment As we conclude our unit, students were able to come up with new ideas and make things creatively using their imaginations. They have created a 'food shop' role play area. They made different food out of paper plates, pasta, foam, and other recycled materials. We enjoyed our colourful corn sensory bin, we made cat in the hat, and carrot crafts. We also drew and wrote the words that start with letter c on our sound book. Holiday Recount After the mid-term break the children were asked what they did over the holidays. They were encouraged to express themselves creatively on paper and to verbally tell us what they were drawing about. Mathematics - Patterns During mathematics activities, we have been focusing on patterns. Preschool students together with their Grade 3 buddies looked for patterns in the ECC playground. They found many patterns on the display board, floor and play equipment. Patterns are everywhere! They applied their knowledge into our pattern strips, pattern tile arts and pattern boards. Beau's 5th Birthday Celebration
Thank you for celebrating your 5th birthday with us. Inquiring into Numbers Preschool students have been inquiring into numbers. They were exposed to many playful activities and hands-on games using variety of manipulatives. We played bingo, we went number hunting around the school and used tally charts to record our data. We count everyday and everywhere! We count our friends in the morning and we do counting in our calendar. We count the bowls and spoons when we have snacks and many more. Phonics We had a busy week with our letter sound of the week 'Nn'. We did night craft, necklaces, noodle sensory bin and making cheese nachos. What a fun way to learn sounds through hands-on experiences. Night, Necklaces, Nest, Noodles and Nachos! We are the Preschool Cats! We needed to choose a class name that began with C (Preschool C). Our choices were living things such as coconut, cat, carrot, cow, camel or corn. Mathematics: Linked to data handling - graphing. ![]() Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves Developing a new role play area The students were shown various photos of role play areas. Preschool Cats voted 'Hospital' as their new role play area. We brainstormed many ideas on what we will need for our hospital role-play area. We drew pictures on a big white paper and the teacher scribed. Gabby and Ameli took action and brought some equipment to make our hospital an enjoyable place to pretend. If you have old equipment or empty medicine boxes to add to our 'hospital', please send them in. The children can make use of them. Cardboard Challenge with Grade 3 Buddies Preschool C students and their Grade 3 buddies have worked cooperatively for the last 3 weeks. They have met every Tuesday afternoon. At first, they watched the video of 'Global Cardboard Challenge' to be able to understand the whole concept and get inspired. Process: 1. They discussed and made plans on what they want to make out of the cardboard. 2. They drew some pictures to show what it looks like. 3. They cut and used tape and glue to put them together. 4. They added some recycled materials to make it work. 5. They painted and dried them well. 6. They presented to the whole group and explained what they made. Through this activity, they developed their creativity and imagination, teamwork and determination. The Grade 3 buddies had a chance to lead and guide the thinking of the preschool students. This linked to our line of inquiry: Imaginative uses of everyday materials. What starts with the letter Pp? Last week we explored the letter P through foods and crafts. We dyed pasta using different food colouring. We made our own pineapple pops and we cooked pancakes. We also made our purple play dough. Pasta Structures We used pasta and play dough to build and create a new structure. Look at our creations! SEL and Mindfulness Mindful activity for the children is one of the most important parts of our day. This involves being present in the moment and paying attention to their bodies. Also, taking deep breaths and calming down. We use the song 'Breathing in, Breathing out' by Betsy Rose. To tune into our bodies we also do some movements such as dance, movement and yoga. UWC Day ECC and Grade 1 students worked collaboratively to celebrate the UWC Day by doing different activities that promote unity, service, sharing and sustainability. The Preschool C enjoyed making special cards, performing music videos and baking muffins for the elders to be given to the Home for the Aged in Paklok, Phuket. They also made some pots using recycled materials and planted some seeds. Grade 11's came and helped our little children in various activities. Indeed, it was such a beautiful way to celebrate UWC Day! ECC Family Picnic and International Day Breakfast It was such a great morning when all ECC children and families gathered together for our very first ECC Fun Day event. We shared a delicious picnic breakfast. Thank you all for bringing and sharing your healthy and yummy breakfast. Here are a few quotes from the children: Ashley: “I like the picnic because I eat with my mummy and sister.” Maia: “I liked it when my mummy and daddy said goodbye and I love the different foods.” Gabby: ‘I liked all the foods and I had fruits and orange juice.” Angus: “I like the bread and I bring fruits and yoghurt.” Kai: “I really like the pancake at the picnic.” Tycoon: I like it when my mummy and daddy eat with me. Chase: “I love to eat the cookies that mummy made. I played with Kai nicely.” Ameli: “I liked the picnic and I played with mummy.” Beau: “I really liked eating cookies. My mum brought some cupcakes. My dad came too and he played football and built Lego with me.” Melissa: “I like picnic because I eat cupcake.” Mandy: “I really like the picnic because I like to eat sweet flower dessert. “ Bonus: “I like chicken and sticky rice in the picnic.” Classroom Explorations and Activities Our letter sound of the week was 'Ii'. Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves As we inquire into different types of play, we are finding out what are the things we like to play or do at home. The children had a 'show and tell' activity, where they talked about their photos confidently in front of the class. Mathematics - Data Handling As a class, we gathered data about our favourite area to play in the classroom. We used photos and recycled plastic caps to represent information in the chart. This activity is linked to our unit of inquiry. Exploring Letter 'Tt' As part of our Phonics activities, we had a lovely Tea and Toast party, we made turtles for our craft, and we threaded teddy bears. We also had a 'Teddy Bear's Picnic.'
