Cardboard Challenge with Grade 3 Buddies Preschool C students and their Grade 3 buddies have worked cooperatively for the last 3 weeks. They have met every Tuesday afternoon. At first, they watched the video of 'Global Cardboard Challenge' to be able to understand the whole concept and get inspired. Process: 1. They discussed and made plans on what they want to make out of the cardboard. 2. They drew some pictures to show what it looks like. 3. They cut and used tape and glue to put them together. 4. They added some recycled materials to make it work. 5. They painted and dried them well. 6. They presented to the whole group and explained what they made. Through this activity, they developed their creativity and imagination, teamwork and determination. The Grade 3 buddies had a chance to lead and guide the thinking of the preschool students. This linked to our line of inquiry: Imaginative uses of everyday materials. What starts with the letter Pp? Last week we explored the letter P through foods and crafts. We dyed pasta using different food colouring. We made our own pineapple pops and we cooked pancakes. We also made our purple play dough. Pasta Structures We used pasta and play dough to build and create a new structure. Look at our creations! SEL and Mindfulness Mindful activity for the children is one of the most important parts of our day. This involves being present in the moment and paying attention to their bodies. Also, taking deep breaths and calming down. We use the song 'Breathing in, Breathing out' by Betsy Rose. To tune into our bodies we also do some movements such as dance, movement and yoga. Melissa's 4th Birthday Celebration.
Happy birthday Melissa! We enjoyed eating your beautiful cake.

UWC Day ECC and Grade 1 students worked collaboratively to celebrate the UWC Day by doing different activities that promote unity, service, sharing and sustainability. The Preschool C enjoyed making special cards, performing music videos and baking muffins for the elders to be given to the Home for the Aged in Paklok, Phuket. They also made some pots using recycled materials and planted some seeds. Grade 11's came and helped our little children in various activities. Indeed, it was such a beautiful way to celebrate UWC Day! ECC Family Picnic and International Day Breakfast It was such a great morning when all ECC children and families gathered together for our very first ECC Fun Day event. We shared a delicious picnic breakfast. Thank you all for bringing and sharing your healthy and yummy breakfast. We have had another great and fun week. Please look through the photos with your child and talk about what is happening in various photos. Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves As we inquire into different types of play, we are finding out what are the things we like to play or do at home. The children had a 'show and tell' activity, where they talked about their photos confidently in front of the class. Mathematics - Data Handling As a class, we gathered data about our favourite area to play in the classroom. We used photos and recycled plastic caps to represent information in the chart. This activity is linked to our unit of inquiry. Exploring Letter 'Tt' As part of our Phonics activities, we had a lovely Tea and Toast party, we made turtles for our craft, and we threaded teddy bears. We also had a 'Teddy Bear's Picnic.' Swimming class with Kru Lyndsey Most of the children were able to swim last week . The sun was out and they all had fun in the water. Chase's 5th Birthday Celebration Happy birthday Chase! Thank you for sharing your chocolate cake. Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves As we continue to inquire into imaginative ways to play, we have been exploring empty boxes and collecting some sticks. We were able to come up with many great ideas and different ways to play. Inspired by 'Not a box and Not a stick' stories by Antoinette Portis. Not a box! Chase: "It's not a box. It's a boat!" Angus: "It's not a box. It's Teletubbies." Ashley: "It's not box. It's a butterfly." Dragon: "It's not a box. It's a house." Garbriel: "It's not a box. It's a present." Beaumont: "It's not a box. It's a big airplane." Maia: "It's not a box. It's a car." Kai: It's not a box. It's a pirate ship." Tycoon: It's not a box. It's a playground. Mandy: "It's not a box. It's a hiding place." Music with Kru Frederick Preschool C students enjoyed going to Music class. They sang, danced and played various musical instruments. Buddies We met again with our Grade 3 buddies and we went to their classroom. They started off with reading and then they made some little books. It was great seeing them working cooperatively. Wai Kru Day
We celebrated Wai Kru in Thai class. Wai Kru means paying respect to the teachers. The children helped by preparing the flowers and making a 'Thank You' book for their teachers. Big thanks to Kru Ying and Kru Boom for organising such a special day for the teachers. Exploring Mathematics and Language Creatively Mathematics We have been exploring numbers as part of our mathematics pre-assessment. Children were given manipulatives to be able to count, name, recognise, and subitize. For some children they were able to write and count backwards. We threaded some pasta to make bracelets and necklaces and counted them all. We also played different counting games. Language Letter sound of the week - Ss We have started our first letter sound 'Ss'. We followed the order of Jolly Phonics. (s,a,t,i,p,n) We learn letter sounds through songs, arts and crafts and foods. We had sunflower for craft and we glued the seeds onto the letter s. We had fun with our stamping and sponge painting. We had seeds sensory bin and we ate different types of seeds. Grade 3 Buddies This year our buddies are from Grade 3J. We will meet them every Tuesday afternoon. During this time the children are given opportunity to work cooperatively with others, make connections to the Primary School and share a love of books. We look forward to a great year with our buddies. Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves Central Idea: Through play we express our feelings and ideas to come to new understandings. The children were asked this question as part of our tuning in activity. We would like to know how do they define 'play' using their own words. What is play? Angus: "When you play means share." Beau: "It means drawing, painting, and playing with animals. When you play, you make friends." Gabby: "It's a kind of play dough." Maia: "When you play with blocks. It's when you are with people sharing." Kai: "It means Lego." Chase: "When you are reading." Dragon: "Play means rocket ship, a rooster, tiger and popcorn! I feel happy when I play with Gabby." Ashley: "I play with Mandy." Mandy: "Exercising" Tycoon: "Motorcycle toy, vroom vroom." Ameli: "Reading" Welcome back Ameli!
