Final ECC Assembly We are so proud of how well the Orchids did on stage, performing 3 songs - 2 unaccompanied- and then the finale of Moana's How Far I'll Go. They all sang confidently and clearly. Well done! Phuket Farmer's Club field trip With a wet start to the week, our field trip had to be postponed, but thankfully the weather cleared and we were able to join Preschool H to visit the Phuket Farmer's Club and seeing their thriving organic garden. The children were inquisitive and interested in all they saw, learning about how spinach, beans, eggplants and passionfruit grow, to name a few! They planted some amaranth and eggplant seeds to take care of, and saw how a worm farm works. The Phuket Farmer's Club offers workshops, garden advice and delivery boxes of organic fruit and vegetables as well as other artisan products such as pickles and jams, eggs and smoked meats. If you are interested in joining, visit https://www.facebook.com/phuketfarmersclub/. Best of luck to our Preschool 2's going to kindergarten next year! They have been fantastic leaders and grown in their responsibility over the year and we will miss them! Luckily we still get to play with them during lunchtimes. A special goodbye to Dea who will be leaving UWCT.
Arts Week The children had so many new experiences last week and enjoyed creating many different kinds of art. They also enjoyed seeing all the different art at the art show, created by many different students. Comparing our hands to a gorilla's hand
We used a variety of methods to compare our hands with a gorilla's. Many of us made a handprint of our hand on top of the gorilla's and measured with cubes to see how many cubes tall our hand was compared to the gorilla's. Some of us saw how many handprints we could fit inside the gorilla's hand - the average was about 5. And one of us even filled up the gorilla's hand with 63 fingerprints! Actual Size We read the book 'Actual Size' by Steve Jenkins. In it, there are many beautiful pictures of animals, drawn to their actual size! The children chose an animal each and compared the size, length and width to object they found in the classroom and playground. Wheel's Day The children had lots of fun cycling and scootering around the drop-off area. The weather was cool from the rain so they didn't get too hot. They gained confidence and skills as they had fun with their friends. Creating a story with Grade 3 Buddies
Our buddies have been learning to create stories on an ipad app and showed our Preschoolers how to make a story. There were stories about racing cars, animals and friends. The children were very interested to find out how to do 'work' on an ipad! Swimming Gala Enjoy these photos of your children at the swimming gala. Thanks to our photographers, Kru Bowling, Khun Michelle and Khun Rovena! The children have really improved their swimming skills and confidence in the water, it is great to see. Field Trip to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre The children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Gibbon Centre despite the rain. They were amazed to see a giant spider on the roof and to see a gibbon sucking his thumb! They learnt about what gibbons need to stay healthy and enjoyed seeing them in the trees. Thank you to parents for coming along and helping out on the day, and taking some great photos! Classroom Activities We have had some more living things visiting our classroom last week - Keani brought in her daschund dog called Poppy and Renee brought us in a cacti each. Thank you to their mums for helping us learn more about caring for living things. Our letter of the week (our last one!) was Qq, and we made queen crowns and for cooking we made quiche. We have been working hard on our Eric Carle projects and also started some collaborative weaving. Assembly We presented at assembly on Tuesday, everyone did a great job, even when, at the start, we didn't have a microphone! Beach Trip We had wonderful weather for our trip to the beach on Tuesday. The children enjoyed being out in nature and exploring and finding many different living things, such as crabs, vines, mushrooms, flowers and trees. They participated well in a beach clean up to help take care of the environment for the animals that live at the beach. Living Things Show and Tell While last week we had three children sharing about how they take care of their pets, this week we had three show and tells about taking care of plants. Leo and his parents shared with us their sunflowers and also showed us some of the products from sunflowers - sunflower seeds and sunflower oil. We were able to taste the seeds and dip bread in the oil. Then Leo's Dad filled a jar with sunflower oil and dropped some food colouring in. It was amazing to observe the liquids separating and making little balls of colour. Hunter and her dad shared with us a garden that Hunter had made and told us what plants need to grow and stay healthy. Then Nana and her Mum shared about the many plants they have at home and in particular their basil plant. They had prepared some basil flavoured lemonade for us all to enjoy. Thank you to all for sharing with us! Animals inspired by Eric Carle We have been reading some books about different animals by Eric Carle, and looking at the beautiful pictures. We decided to make our own animal painting, using a similar technique to Eric Carle. We have chosen our animals and are starting to paint. Classroom Play and Activities Living Things have certain needs in order to grow and stay healthy As we revisit our unit on Living Things we have been looking into our line of inquiry - "how we care for living things". Dea, Sasha and Cooper brought in their dogs for a show and tell. We were all curious to see them and learn about what they need to stay healthy. Our buddies took us around the ECC to take photos of living things and helped us think about the characteristics of living things - does it breathe, does it move, does it grow, does it eat or make food, does it need water, does it make babies or seeds, does it sense things? We have also been enjoying playing in our Vet's Clinic. Assembly We performed two pieces at assembly last week. The first was a poem about a Cobbler and an Elf which the children acted out. Then we sang and danced a duet with our partners. Well done children! Classroom Activities
Collaborative Artwork This year for the Art Auction in Arts Week, Preschool has decided to decorate a mirror with lots of little paintings. Our class have been carefully preparing our miniature paintings. We have discovered there are many stages to producing a beautiful painting and we sometimes need to practice to get the picture we imagine. Measurement This week we have been looking at the difference between height (how tall something is) and length (how long something is). With our buddies, we took a piece of string into the playground to find if our playground equipment was longer, taller or shorter than the piece of string. We drew the things we measured and put them on a chart to display. We have also been measuring things in our classroom using cubes. Vv Our letter sound of the week has been Vv. We have painted some lovely vases in the shape of a letter v. We made a volcano and watched it froth and flow. We practiced our food preparation skills to cut up some vegetables. We discussed which were our favourite and enjoyed trying something new. Then we visited the worm farm and gave the worms our vegetable scraps. Happy Birthday!
It was Hunter and Taylor's birthday last week, and we celebrated their birthday on Friday. Everyone enjoyed the wonderfully decorated cookies! Weaving Our letter of the week was Ww, so we decided to do some weaving with a traditional bamboo cage. Weaving teaches children many developmental skills while offering a creative and challenging learning experience. As they weave, children learn patterning, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and they learn to create 3-D art, or think in three dimensions. By weaving in and out in a pattern, children learn to coordinate their eyes, hands and minds; and they also cross the midline, which reinforces brain development between the right and left hemispheres. And just as important, the children really enjoyed it! Lots of good reasons to carry on with weaving into Term 3! Songkran Songkran is such a wonderful festival that gives us a chance to have fun and do something we wouldn't ordinarily be allowed to do - splashing our teachers and friends! While some children were a little hesitant at first, most embraced the play and joined in the fun. Week 1, Term 3 Photo GalleryGetting Ready for our Museum The children worked really hard to prepare for presenting 'All About Me'. Thank you so much for supporting them, both by helping them bring in special momentoes and coming to see the museum. Measurement
Following on from our investigation into our height, we found some interesting lines that Kru Liv had stuck on the table. Kru Liv asked us 'Which is the Longest line?' Most of us pointed to one line. Then she said 'how can you find out?' We used a piece of yarn to measure each line, then we could tell which one was the longest. We were surprised at the answer! Next time you're in our class, ask your child to show you the longest line. Measuring how I am Growing and Changing We visited the nurse last week to see how much we had grown since our last visit. Now we are making our own chart in class to show our height. Recognising similarities and differences in ourselves and others
As part of our inquiry into Who We Are, we have been looking at what we have in common with others, and what is different too! Using the visual of a venn diagram (two interlocking circles), we were able to show the similarities and differences between us and a friend. First we did this activity with our Grade 3 buddies, and then repeated it with a classmate. We also read a book called 'Clive Eats Alligators' which looked at many different things that people like. We celebrated book week by bringing in our favourite books and sharing them with our friends, dressing up as our favourite book character and having a snuggle up and read pyjama day. We also went to the library to hear a tale from Scotland about a highland cow, told by Kru Marshall. Who We Are - How I am Growing and Changing Can you guess who these beautiful babies are? Many of the children found it difficult to guess which one was them. Happy Birthday Karate! It was Karate's birthday a couple of weeks ago while she was sick. She was very happy to celebrate with her friends and all her friends were excited too! Sports Day
The children had a great time on the Sports Day, participating with friends from across the Preschool. Thank you to all the parents for cheering them on! |
