Collaborative Artwork This year for the Art Auction in Arts Week, Preschool has decided to decorate a mirror with lots of little paintings. Our class have been carefully preparing our miniature paintings. We have discovered there are many stages to producing a beautiful painting and we sometimes need to practice to get the picture we imagine. Measurement This week we have been looking at the difference between height (how tall something is) and length (how long something is). With our buddies, we took a piece of string into the playground to find if our playground equipment was longer, taller or shorter than the piece of string. We drew the things we measured and put them on a chart to display. We have also been measuring things in our classroom using cubes. Vv Our letter sound of the week has been Vv. We have painted some lovely vases in the shape of a letter v. We made a volcano and watched it froth and flow. We practiced our food preparation skills to cut up some vegetables. We discussed which were our favourite and enjoyed trying something new. Then we visited the worm farm and gave the worms our vegetable scraps. Happy Birthday!
It was Hunter and Taylor's birthday last week, and we celebrated their birthday on Friday. Everyone enjoyed the wonderfully decorated cookies! Weaving Our letter of the week was Ww, so we decided to do some weaving with a traditional bamboo cage. Weaving teaches children many developmental skills while offering a creative and challenging learning experience. As they weave, children learn patterning, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and they learn to create 3-D art, or think in three dimensions. By weaving in and out in a pattern, children learn to coordinate their eyes, hands and minds; and they also cross the midline, which reinforces brain development between the right and left hemispheres. And just as important, the children really enjoyed it! Lots of good reasons to carry on with weaving into Term 3! Songkran Songkran is such a wonderful festival that gives us a chance to have fun and do something we wouldn't ordinarily be allowed to do - splashing our teachers and friends! While some children were a little hesitant at first, most embraced the play and joined in the fun. Week 1, Term 3 Photo GalleryGetting Ready for our Museum The children worked really hard to prepare for presenting 'All About Me'. Thank you so much for supporting them, both by helping them bring in special momentoes and coming to see the museum. Measurement
Following on from our investigation into our height, we found some interesting lines that Kru Liv had stuck on the table. Kru Liv asked us 'Which is the Longest line?' Most of us pointed to one line. Then she said 'how can you find out?' We used a piece of yarn to measure each line, then we could tell which one was the longest. We were surprised at the answer! Next time you're in our class, ask your child to show you the longest line. Measuring how I am Growing and Changing We visited the nurse last week to see how much we had grown since our last visit. Now we are making our own chart in class to show our height. Recognising similarities and differences in ourselves and others
As part of our inquiry into Who We Are, we have been looking at what we have in common with others, and what is different too! Using the visual of a venn diagram (two interlocking circles), we were able to show the similarities and differences between us and a friend. First we did this activity with our Grade 3 buddies, and then repeated it with a classmate. We also read a book called 'Clive Eats Alligators' which looked at many different things that people like. |
