Actual Size We read the book 'Actual Size' by Steve Jenkins. In it, there are many beautiful pictures of animals, drawn to their actual size! The children chose an animal each and compared the size, length and width to object they found in the classroom and playground. Wheel's Day The children had lots of fun cycling and scootering around the drop-off area. The weather was cool from the rain so they didn't get too hot. They gained confidence and skills as they had fun with their friends. Creating a story with Grade 3 Buddies
Our buddies have been learning to create stories on an ipad app and showed our Preschoolers how to make a story. There were stories about racing cars, animals and friends. The children were very interested to find out how to do 'work' on an ipad! Swimming Gala Enjoy these photos of your children at the swimming gala. Thanks to our photographers, Kru Bowling, Khun Michelle and Khun Rovena! The children have really improved their swimming skills and confidence in the water, it is great to see. Field Trip to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre The children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Gibbon Centre despite the rain. They were amazed to see a giant spider on the roof and to see a gibbon sucking his thumb! They learnt about what gibbons need to stay healthy and enjoyed seeing them in the trees. Thank you to parents for coming along and helping out on the day, and taking some great photos! Classroom Activities We have had some more living things visiting our classroom last week - Keani brought in her daschund dog called Poppy and Renee brought us in a cacti each. Thank you to their mums for helping us learn more about caring for living things. Our letter of the week (our last one!) was Qq, and we made queen crowns and for cooking we made quiche. We have been working hard on our Eric Carle projects and also started some collaborative weaving. Assembly We presented at assembly on Tuesday, everyone did a great job, even when, at the start, we didn't have a microphone! Beach Trip We had wonderful weather for our trip to the beach on Tuesday. The children enjoyed being out in nature and exploring and finding many different living things, such as crabs, vines, mushrooms, flowers and trees. They participated well in a beach clean up to help take care of the environment for the animals that live at the beach. Living Things Show and Tell While last week we had three children sharing about how they take care of their pets, this week we had three show and tells about taking care of plants. Leo and his parents shared with us their sunflowers and also showed us some of the products from sunflowers - sunflower seeds and sunflower oil. We were able to taste the seeds and dip bread in the oil. Then Leo's Dad filled a jar with sunflower oil and dropped some food colouring in. It was amazing to observe the liquids separating and making little balls of colour. Hunter and her dad shared with us a garden that Hunter had made and told us what plants need to grow and stay healthy. Then Nana and her Mum shared about the many plants they have at home and in particular their basil plant. They had prepared some basil flavoured lemonade for us all to enjoy. Thank you to all for sharing with us! Animals inspired by Eric Carle We have been reading some books about different animals by Eric Carle, and looking at the beautiful pictures. We decided to make our own animal painting, using a similar technique to Eric Carle. We have chosen our animals and are starting to paint. Classroom Play and Activities Living Things have certain needs in order to grow and stay healthy As we revisit our unit on Living Things we have been looking into our line of inquiry - "how we care for living things". Dea, Sasha and Cooper brought in their dogs for a show and tell. We were all curious to see them and learn about what they need to stay healthy. Our buddies took us around the ECC to take photos of living things and helped us think about the characteristics of living things - does it breathe, does it move, does it grow, does it eat or make food, does it need water, does it make babies or seeds, does it sense things? We have also been enjoying playing in our Vet's Clinic. Assembly We performed two pieces at assembly last week. The first was a poem about a Cobbler and an Elf which the children acted out. Then we sang and danced a duet with our partners. Well done children! Classroom Activities
