UWCT ARTS WEEK 2017 The students have been really fortunate and exposed to many different arts activities within the week. Please see the photos below and ask your child what was their favourite thing. Chalk Adventure with Kru Ned The children were inspired by the chalk designs that Kru Ned introduced to them. They also made prints on the walkways. Leaf Art with Kru Lucy They painted the leaves using paints and different materials. They listened well to the instructions of Kru Lucy and enjoyed the Kindergarten classroom. Cupcake decoration with Supicha (mum of Leo from Preschool O) They were very excited to decorate their own cupcake and ate them after lunch. Arts and Crafts with Aliya They made turtle using crepe paper. They were able to choose different colours and design their own turtles. Colour Science with Baffely The children were amazed and impressed with the experiments. They were able to try mixing colour using milk and dishwashing soap as well as the baking soda with vinegar. Angus' Advance 5th Birthday Celebration Angus will turn 5 in July. Due to the school holidays, his family decided to celebrate this in advance with his friends at school. Show and Tell - Unit of Inquiry
Mandy and her mum brought in their dog to meet us. He is called Lek. Their dog showed us his tricks and the children enjoyed patting him. They look after him by feeding him, and taking him for walks. They also need to take him to the vet if he gets sick and to help him stay healthy.

Sharing the planet - UOI We have been inquiring into living things, as Arts Week is coming we have chosen art projects to showcase this. Preschool students created beautiful living things-inspired art pieces with the help of their G3 buddies. They chose an animal, glued natural materials on the animal template and painted a background. Here's the process: Final Art Pieces are displayed on the hallway of the Drama and Music rooms. Mathematics - Measurement We have been focusing on comparing and measuring things. With the help of this interesting book entitled 'ACTUAL SIZE' by Steve Jenkins, the students were able to compare and understand how to measure using unifix cubes. They enjoyed comparing their body parts to the actual size of different animals on the book. Then they later measured the hand of the gorilla using unifix cubes and compared to their own hands. Show and Tell - Sharing the Planet Melissa brought in her big poster with the photos of her cousin's horses. She showed and explained to us how she enjoyed riding a pony and how she helped to take care of it. Line of Inquiry: How we care for living things Attitude: Confidence, commitment Learner Profile: Communicator, risk taker ART SALE AND AUCTION ON FRIDAY, 3RD OF JUNE Each Preschool class beautifully decorated a mirror using a range of techniques. The students mixed colours and painted each piece of wood. Some they decorated using their own unique colours and designs and on one they each carefully wrote their name. A wonderful memory for years to come of the friendships they made in Preschool. (This was posted last week on our homepage.) Wheel's Day Fun
Swim Gala 2017 It was a fine cloudy day when the ECC students enjoyed the swim gala at Thanyapura. Preschool C students demonstrated confidence and showed various swimming skills. We are so proud of their progress. Thank you parents for coming along and cheering on the children! Field Trip to Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre It was a great day for the Preschool students to be able to see the gibbons at the Rehabilitation Centre, despite the rainy weather. They learnt some basic facts about them and how they are taken care of by the people who rescued the gibbons. Preschool classes have also sponsored a gibbon named "Tunda" for a year. We hope to visit the gibbons again next year. Special thanks to Mintra (Melissa's mum), Nim (Angus' mum), and Nam (Ashley's mum) for coming along and helping out with the children. Sharing the Planet - Show and Tell
Gabriel and Ameli made a huge effort and created interactive posters of living things for their show and tell. Angus brought in an orchid plant and materials to help grow the plant. The class enjoyed their presentations. Thank you parents for your support on this! If you have not sent anything for 'show and tell', you are most welcome to do it for the next two weeks. Preschool Expedition - Education Outside the Classroom EOTC The children collected and picked up some trash at Naiyang Beach. They enjoyed the sun, sand and the water. They played and looked for some living things. At the end of the trip, they had a special treat at the Slate Hotel. Unit of Inquiry - Sharing the Planet Show and Tell The students were good communicators when they presented their 'Show and Tell' in front of the class. Classroom Inquiries The students have been busy preparing and decorating the letters for our Letter/Sound Board. We did many activities that help develop our hand and eye coordination and creativity such as threading, Geoboards and hammering. Ameli's 5th Birthday
Happy birthday Ameli! We enjoyed the cake you shared to us. Revisiting our Unit of Inquiry on Living Things To find out what they remember, students were asked to draw pictures of living and non-living things they saw during a nature walk around UWCT. How do you know if it is a living thing? The children had meaningful discussions and questions with their buddies about why some things are considered living things. Classroom Activities and Play We have been busy with our art collaborative piece for the Arts Week. The children started painting the wooden pieces. We also explored the letter 'Yy' and we threaded y using yellow yarn. The children had fun with our sensory play using water beads. Derek's 5th Birthday
Derek celebrated his 5th birthday with us and shared his yummy ice-cream cake! |
