Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves As we continue to inquire into imaginative ways to play, we have been exploring empty boxes and collecting some sticks. We were able to come up with many great ideas and different ways to play. Inspired by 'Not a box and Not a stick' stories by Antoinette Portis. Not a box! Chase: "It's not a box. It's a boat!" Angus: "It's not a box. It's Teletubbies." Ashley: "It's not box. It's a butterfly." Dragon: "It's not a box. It's a house." Garbriel: "It's not a box. It's a present." Beaumont: "It's not a box. It's a big airplane." Maia: "It's not a box. It's a car." Kai: It's not a box. It's a pirate ship." Tycoon: It's not a box. It's a playground. Mandy: "It's not a box. It's a hiding place." Music with Kru Frederick Preschool C students enjoyed going to Music class. They sang, danced and played various musical instruments. Buddies We met again with our Grade 3 buddies and we went to their classroom. They started off with reading and then they made some little books. It was great seeing them working cooperatively. Wai Kru Day
We celebrated Wai Kru in Thai class. Wai Kru means paying respect to the teachers. The children helped by preparing the flowers and making a 'Thank You' book for their teachers. Big thanks to Kru Ying and Kru Boom for organising such a special day for the teachers.

Exploring Mathematics and Language Creatively Mathematics We have been exploring numbers as part of our mathematics pre-assessment. Children were given manipulatives to be able to count, name, recognise, and subitize. For some children they were able to write and count backwards. We threaded some pasta to make bracelets and necklaces and counted them all. We also played different counting games. Language Letter sound of the week - Ss We have started our first letter sound 'Ss'. We followed the order of Jolly Phonics. (s,a,t,i,p,n) We learn letter sounds through songs, arts and crafts and foods. We had sunflower for craft and we glued the seeds onto the letter s. We had fun with our stamping and sponge painting. We had seeds sensory bin and we ate different types of seeds. Grade 3 Buddies This year our buddies are from Grade 3J. We will meet them every Tuesday afternoon. During this time the children are given opportunity to work cooperatively with others, make connections to the Primary School and share a love of books. We look forward to a great year with our buddies. Unit of Inquiry - How we express ourselves Central Idea: Through play we express our feelings and ideas to come to new understandings. The children were asked this question as part of our tuning in activity. We would like to know how do they define 'play' using their own words. What is play? Angus: "When you play means share." Beau: "It means drawing, painting, and playing with animals. When you play, you make friends." Gabby: "It's a kind of play dough." Maia: "When you play with blocks. It's when you are with people sharing." Kai: "It means Lego." Chase: "When you are reading." Dragon: "Play means rocket ship, a rooster, tiger and popcorn! I feel happy when I play with Gabby." Ashley: "I play with Mandy." Mandy: "Exercising" Tycoon: "Motorcycle toy, vroom vroom." Ameli: "Reading" Welcome back Ameli!
Who we are - A yearlong unit We have read the book 'It's Okay to Be Different' by Todd Parr. Children learned that we are all different and unique. It's okay to have different facial features as well as colours, and sizes. Then they were able to do their own self portraits using black markers and skin coloured pencils. Students were able to choose a colour that matches their skin. The process of self-portraits
We continued making and painting our birthday balloon charts, exploring our own names and created 'Who am I' posters. These activities are all part of our 'Who we are' unit of inquiry. Check out our bulletins boards. Developing Class Essential Agreements Setting the tone of the class in the first few weeks of the school year is very essential. The children are learning new routines and understanding the class expectations. We brainstormed many ideas on how we feel safe, happy, and how to take care of each other. Most children in the class are familiar already with classroom essential agreements while others have just been introduced to it. We need to make sure that we all understand and we need to remind ourselves. Having essential agreements in the class will help the children develop a sense of responsibility and understand how to be able to work cooperatively with others. All the children took part in this process. Here's our Essential Agreements *We walk in the class and we keep our feet to ourselves. *We use soft hands, we keep our hands to ourselves, and we all help cleaning up. *We take care of our friends and we share. *We listen when someone is talking and we show respect to our teachers. We use soft voices in the class and we use words when we need something. Last week, we welcomed Bonus to our Preschool C class! Kai's 4th birthday celebration.
Thanks for sharing yummy chocolate banana muffins with us. This new academic year we are composed of 14 children with 9 different nationalities. We are very thrilled to have a great year ahead. We are still waiting for Ameli, Melissa and Bonus to join us in the next few days. Meet our class. First week of Preschool was full of excitement. The children were exploring the classroom, the new environment, different toys and educational materials. They were able to play, interact and spend time with their old and new friends, and new teachers. They were learning some new routines in Preschool.
Indeed, it was a great first week! |
