Planting in the Garden Our seedlings grew so fast, already we have needed to replant them into pots in the garden. We planted a bed of corn, a pot of pumpkin and some sunflowers, all grown by us from seeds. We were also very lucky to be given a raspberry plant by Leo's family, which we also planted in the garden. Have a look with your children when you walk by, and ask them to show you what we have planted! Classroom Activities This week, our letter/sound of the week was R and we made reindeer, decorated our r's with rainbow rice and made rice pudding. We have been playing a treasure chest maths game to learn about sharing things out equally as well as practicing counting and recognising numbers. We have spotted the elf around the ECC and we welcomed Keani back from her exciting holiday in South Africa! Trip to Vanich Farm The children really enjoyed their trip to Vanich Farm and were amazed by all the new things they saw! Here are some more photos of the day. Painting pebbles for pebble breathing This week, we went for a walk around the garden and collected some pebbles to use for our Mindfulness practice of pebble breathing. After cleaning the pebbles, we painted them carefully with pictures of a flower and a mountain. As we hold the pebble, we imagine blooming like a flower, or being strong and solid like a mountain. Loy Krathong Although we did not celebrate Loy Krathong this year, the children learnt about it in Thai class and honoured the day. Planting in the Garden The children have enjoyed planting seeds this week. By Thursday, the seeds we had planted on Monday had already sprouted! The children have learnt that seeds need water, sun, soil and time to grow. We are lucky here in Thailand that it doesn't take much time for plants to grow! Classroom Play and Activities We made helicopters this week for the letter 'h', we continued practicing counting back from 10 and there was some interesting creative play happening with building, storytelling and role play. Happy Birthday Stepan!
Stepan turned 5 on Friday and his Mum and brother George came in to help us celebrate. We looked at photos of Stepan growing up and had a yummy ice cream cake! Our new unit - Sharing The Planet We have begun learning about the living things we share the planet with - plants and animals. The children have spent some time in the garden observing and drawing the living and non-living things they saw. We had a picnic in the garden and the birds came to join us! We also were able to visit Khao Phra Thaeo National Park again, and this time it didn't rain! The children had a wonderful time and seemed so happy and amazed by all the nature they saw. We enjoyed walking to the river and saw many new things - giant ants and their large ant mound, mushrooms, vines, caterpillars and butterflies. It was a great introduction to the 'great outdoors'. E is for egg! We boiled eggs this week and then used beeswax crayons to decorate them. We took our eggs with us to the national park to eat for our picnic! Music Class The children love going to Music with Kru Frederick! They have begun practicing for their performance at the Christmas Fair. Scavenger Hunt with Grade 3
For our Buddy Time last week, the Grade 3's had prepared a scavenger hunt for us! The children had to find out the answers to questions such as: the number of flower pots between two buildings, the name of the nurse, what shape Kru Ned has made the garden beds and many more. They enjoyed exploring the wider school with their older friends. Nature Collages with Grade 3 Buddies Thai Class The children learnt about King Bhumibol and his love for his dog Khun Thongdang. Swimming and Outdoor Play We have enjoyed having a few dry days for playing outside - riding bikes and swimming. Trip to the Rainforest Our trip to Khao Phra Thaeo National Park was cut short by a heavy and lasting rainshower, but we still managed to enjoy our short time there! Some of us were even able to splash in muddy puddles with our raincoats and boots. Our letter /sound of the week was Cc. We decided to celebrate Kru Bowling's birthday by making a Carrot Cake with candles and a card. Happy Birthday Kru Bowling! Thank you for all your work in our class. Cardboard Challenge We finished our cardboard challenge with our buddies in Week 9. Here are some photos of what we made! Outdoor Play With the drier weather last week, the children were able to play outside a lot and enjoyed time riding bikes, playing in the sand and jumping on the trampoline. Along with improving their gross motor skills, outdoor play also gives them opportunities for social interactions in different settings, role play (for example giving tickets to drivers as they went past) and building their relationship with nature. Classroom Play and Activities We have been enjoying learning through play and using our imagination as we conclude our unit of inquiry on play. Have a look and discuss the photos with your child. Mathematics - Patterns This week we explored more and used our knowledge of patterns to create them out of different materials. We went on a pattern walk around the ECC and, working in pairs with an ipad, we took photos of the patterns we could see. We have also started to make pattern collages. Classroom Activities
We have had a busy week with lots of activities, building and play happening. Have a look with your child and ask them what is happening in the pictures. Mathematics This week we finished our mobile of numbers 1 -20. We counted out the number of beads for our chosen number and threaded them. In our data unit, we looked at the number of letters in our names and how we can represent this in different ways. Some children also created their own charts and tables to collect information, such as what pets people have and if they have brothers and sisters. They were great inquirers, formulating questions and recording the answers in a variety of ways. Classroom Play There has been a lot of role play happening this week! Have a look at these photos with your child and ask them to tell you what is happening. Pizza, pasta, pompoms and patterns!
We were exploring the letter sound 'p' this week and made pasta patterned necklaces. We made pizza from scratch and the preschool 2's began a long term craft project - making a pompom. Happy Birthday Liam! Liam turned 4 and we celebrated with some yummy pirate cupcakes! Thank you to Liam's mum and dad and sister Stella for sharing some photos of Liam growing up and celebrating with us. UWC DayPreschool O joined with Kindergarten L to move around the various activities together. They started off by talking about 5 things that were special about themselves, and then drawing around each others hands and writing their special things in each finger. Then they sung some songs with Kru Jessica. These were recorded and will be shared to the retirement home that some secondary students visit each week. The children also made muffins, cards, a plant pot and planted seeds to give to the old people. They had a fun day and learnt through these fun activities about the UWC commitment to service and helping others. Our letter sound of the week - Ii This week we practiced writing 'i's on the whiteboard, we used our fine motor skills to thread around a capital i, we made insect collages, ice blocks/icy pops and froze some ocean animals in water. Then we had great fun trying to get the animals out of the ice! We are the Preschool Orchids! Using our data collecting skills, we had a class vote to choose what living thing we would like for our class name. We could choose from Octopus, Ostrich, Orangutan, Oryx, Oak tree, Otter, Orchid or Owl. We agreed to choose the name which had the most votes. It was very close, but, with 4 votes, orchid was the favourite. Today (Monday), Kru Zone, the primary school art teacher, came to help us make an artwork of an orchid. We helped draw the outline and then paint it. We also painted our own small orchids too. What beautiful orchids! ECC Family Picnic and International Cuisine Day What a wonderful morning we shared on Friday, trying many different dishes. Thank you for coming along and sharing your culture with us! We are happy to Welcome Back Dea to our class! Water Play and Swimming with Kru Lyndsey Music with Kru Frederick Time In Everyday after lunch, we have a quiet time when we focus on our breathing and relax. This term, we are doing yoga as our mindfulness practice. The children love to stretch their body in their favourite asanas such as downward dog, cat pose, tree and aeroplane. How We Express Ourselves
We are continuing to explore what play is. This week, we went to our Grade 3 buddies' class to see what they like to play with. We also continued our imaginative use of everyday materials creating and playing with boxes. Classroom Activities Kru Bowling was sick this week and we were lucky to have many people helping us! Thank you to Kru Nok, Kru Pla, and the Nursery TA's. We have been making lots of things - from playdough, threading beads and other craft materials. Not A Box As part of our Unit of Inquiry, one of our lines of inquiry is 'imaginative use of everyday materials'. We introduced some cardboard boxes to our classroom for the children to explore. A wide variety of imaginative activites ensued, boxes became boats, planes, jack-in-the-box and were decorated with paint and other materials. Our sound of the week was 'Aa'. We thought of lots of words with the 'a' sound - many of our names have a's in them, as well as apple, ants, avocado, alligator and ape. We made apple prints and dot Aa's. Wai Kru We celebrated Wai Kru in Thai class. Wai Kru means paying respect to the teachers. The children helped by preparing the flowers. Big thanks to Kru Ying and Kru Boom for organising such a special day for the teachers. Happy Birthday Yaya! It was Yaya's birthday a few weeks ago but she was sick, so now we were able to celebrate her birthday. Her parents came in and shared some lovely photos of Yaya when she was younger. Then we gave her a card we had made and shared a delicious birthday cake. Have fun being 3 in Preschool Yaya! |
