Book Week Preparation - Jack and the Beanstalk Last week, students spent the week reading and listening to different versions of the fairytale, Jack and the beanstalk. They played with 'magic' beans, retold the story and created a lovely display to celebrate book week. FUN IN THE GARDEN AND POOL WHO WE ARE - EXPLORING HOW WE ARE GROWING AND CHANGING
To provoke students into thinking about how they are growing and changing, we provided them with a range of baby items. They had some interesting discussions and made meaningful connections to their own experiences.

EXPLORING POSITIONAL LANGUAGE (PREPOSITIONS) Students enjoyed singing the Raffi song, 'There's a spider' and hiding a spider in different positions. Giving their friends clues (prepositions) students were encouraged to find the missing spider. Students also made their own poster and book by drawing a spider in different positions. THAI CLASS WITH KRU YING AND KRU BOOM In Thai Language and Culture class, students are continuing to learn about ways to travel by learning the names of different transportation in Thai. They sang songs, read stories and created pictures. WHO WE ARE
Students continued to explore their physical characteristics last week by creating a self-portrait. We also played 'Guess who' games by giving clues about hair colour, eye colour and skin tone. We feel it is important to highlight and celebrate these differences. GRADE 3 BUDDIES It was great to work with our Grade 3 buddies last week. STUDENT LED CONFERENCES The conferences were the highlight of our week. Students were so confident in sharing their learning and progress with parents. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. MULTICULTURAL DAY On Friday we celebrated the diversity amongst our students at the annual Multicultural Day. Kathy kindly came in to read us a classic English story and treated us to a high tea complete with cucumber sandwiches! The food in the evening was delicious and the performances were outstanding. JOURNEYS CAN TAKE US NEAR AND FAR Students continued to share posters they created of their December holiday journeys. It was great to see them speaking with such confidence and their peers listening attentively and asking appropriate questions. We also explored a variety of maps and tried to make some with our peers and Grade 3 buddies. CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS Thank you you to India, Dorothy and all Chinese parents who celebrated Chinese New year with us on Friday. It was wonderful to learn more about Chinese traditions, culture, craft and food. Preschool H leads the first ECC assembly On Tuesday, we were very proud of our class for leading the first ECC assembly. Students had the opportunity to use a microphone and spoke in clear and confident voices. Self-portraits At the beginning of every term, students are asked to draw a self-portrait. This is a wonderful opportunity to observe the progress and development of each child. Making Fairy Gardens
Students were eager to plant new seeds and Kathy joined us on Friday to help us to make our very own fairy gardens. welcome back to term 2!Students enjoyed listening to the story of The Gingerbread Man and also baking their very own gingerbread man. On Thursday afternoon when students were ready to eat these, we discovered they they were missing. A series of clues were left behind and we had to go on a treasure hunt around the ECC looking for our gingerbread men. preschool peMaths: 2D shapesWe have been exploring 2D shapes. Students have made Pete the Cat and transport collages using different 2D shapes. We have also made patterns with shapes and played guessing games to develop our shape vocabulary.
TUNING IN TO OUR JOURNEYS UNIT OF INQUIRY Students worked cooperatively last week to develop new role play areas in the classroom for our Journeys unit. Creating an airplane and travels agents allowed students to demonstrate and discuss what they already know about a journey, ways to travel and reasons people take journeys. Click HERE for the link. ![]() THIS IS THE WAY WE GO TO SCHOOL Students read, This is the way we go to school and also watched vidoes of children around the world using different kinds of transportation to travel to schoool. Students discussed their own journey to school and discovered that they all travel by car. They created a picture of their car journey and what they see as they travelled from home to school. PARTS OF A PLANT Last week, children learned more about what a plant needs by looking closely at the different parts of a plant. They used ipads to photograph leaves, stems, flowers and fruit. Finding and photographing the roots of a plant was quite tricky. PAINTING LIVING THINGS WITH OUR GRADE 3 BUDDIES DRAWING AND DESCRIBING MONSTERS Last week, we read books about monsters and children created their own monster picture using black ink and coloured dye. They then described the monsters most frightening features.
