ECC SWIM GALA We were very proud of Preschool students on Wednesday. They showed a great deal of skill and endurance. It was great to see how much progress they have made in the pool. HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY!
Maths: Measurement Students enjoyed reading the book, Actual Size by Steve Jenkins. They chose a body part from one of the animals in the story and compared the size, length or height of this to items around the ECC. Field trip to Nai Yang Beach
We had wonderful weather for our trip to the beach on Tuesday. Students participated well in a beach clean up to show how they can care for living things. LOOKING FOR LIVING THINGS IN THE ECC Last week, we reviewed our understanding of living and non-living livings. Our Grade 3 buddies helped us to photograph living things in the ECC garden. We used the questions below to guide us. ERIC CARLE INSPIRED ARTWORK Preschool students have been reading a range of stories about living things. Many different animals feature in Eric Carle's stories and we were inspired by his colourful illustrations. We found a link on his official website (Eric Carle illustations) that demonstrates how to create these beautiful images. It is a lengthy process but students are really enjoying creating their own Eric Carle inspired animals. PE WITH KRU BO, KRU GARRETT & KRI LYNDSEY
SHARING THE PLANET Last week, students worked cooperatively to set up a vet clinic role-play area in our classroom. After reading books about how vets care for animals, students thought of all the things our vet clinic needed. We are still in need of some soft toy animals, feeding bowls and bandages. Please send these in if you have any at home. MATHS MEASUREMENT Our measurement provocation table got students thinking about how they could measure the length and height of different objects. Grade 3 buddies also helped us with a challenge on Tuesday. Students were given a piece of string and asked to find objects that were the same length and height, longer, taller and shorter than the string. ART SALE AND AUCTION MATHS INQUIRY
We have begun work on our collaborative art piece that will be auctioned at the Art Sale on June 2. We will be decorating a mirror with small individual wooden paintings. We talked about the concept of estimation and measurement as we needed to think about how many wooden pieces would be needed to cover the frame. Students then counted and checked on how close their estimates were. |
