As part of tuning in to our Who We Are unit, we read and watched the story 'The Colors of Us' by Karen Katz. We explored and matched different skin colours. We learned how to mix some colours to produce a matching skin colour. Students then created their self-portraits. ![]() ECC Snuggle Up and Read UWCT Book Week is on March 20th-24th. On Friday 24th it will be ECC Snuggle up and read (Pyjama Day) and children can wear their pyjamas or sleepwear to school and bring along their favourite book to share. Mathematics - Positional Language Pre-assessment: To find out what Preschool students already know about positional language or prepositions, they completed a range of activities. Learning Outcomes: *Use and respond appropriately to positional words indicating location, direction and distance. *Positional language (behind, backward, forward, beside, between, next to). Student Led Conferences 2017 It was a special day! The children had an opportunity to show and teach their family some of the wonderful things they learn at Preschool. As part of our unit of inquiry, Journeys can take us near and far, Preschool students had a chance to experience a short journey. Visiting the Phuket Bird Park also related with our year long unit focusing on Sharing the Planet, 'living things'. The children had so much fun looking at and inquiring into different types of birds as well as other animals found in the park. Special thanks to our class ambassadors Keli Rose, Michelle Wilson, Joy Zuo and Kathy Mendis who helped the children walking around the park safely. Dates for your diary Wednesday 8th February - Student Led Conferences (children only come to school with you, for the time they have signed up for). Friday 10th February - Multicultural Day. In addition to the festivities happening after school on Friday, the Preschool team would like to invite any parents in on Friday to share information about their culture with the students. This might include showing some artefacts, a story or watching a video and talking about something special in your culture. If you're interested please e-mail your teacher and we can organise a time that suits you. Students are invited to wear their national dress or colours, or Thai dress. As Preschool has PE first on Friday, we recommend children come to school in their PE uniform and then wear clothing suitable for their usual active day. If you have a special outfit for them, it may be best to save it until after school. The students thoroughly enjoyed the Sports Day organised by Abbie and Larissa, the two student teachers. I'm sure parents were pleased the weather was overcast and our new roof made the day pleasant for everyone! It was great to see all the skills the children are developing. They were so confident at all the activities. HighLights from Week 2, Term 2Looking at our Unit of Inquiry with our Grade 3 buddies Last Tuesday, we focused on making maps with our buddies. We chose an area of the playground or classroom and tried to draw where everything was. This required us to develop our spatial awareness skills - it was quite difficult! Next week we will carry on with this, cutting out and sticking on the different things in our environment. ECC Garage Sale profits used to purchase sporting equipment for Baan Paklong Cheep School At the end of November, Preschool teachers encouraged ECC students to take action. Many families supported their children in selling gently used items at a Garage Sale. 50% of all profits were donated and we raised more than 15,000 Baht. After consulting with Baan Paklong Cheep school (close to UWCT) they shared with us a list of sporting items they needed. Last Tuesday, Preschool teachers, several students and their parents helped us to deliver these items to the school. Students were delighted with their new equipment and we look forward to continuing this partnership. Thank you so much to all the parents who came in to read stories and do Chinese crafts with us! The children really enjoyed it and learnt a little more about the Chinese culture. Meatless Mondays: A student initiative to be meat free on a Monday. No meat will be served on Mondays. UWCT is celebrating Chinese New Year on Friday 27 January! There will be a whole-school assembly from 1445-1530, with the infamous Lion Dance at the end. The whole community is invited to attend (parents please pick up your child as usual from the Preschool classrooms and then you can take them there if you wish). All are encouraged to wear Chinese costumes, or the colours red and gold to get into the festive spirit. Please note that this is not a free dress day for students, and they should either wear clothes under this theme or wear their school uniform. Our lovely Chinese parents will be serving Chinese New Year Sticky Rice Cake for morning snacks, and visiting the ECC to share Chinese folk tales and crafts. Journeys It was so interesting to hear all the stories of journeys the children have taken over the holidays, both near and far. Children have shared with their classmates, G3 buddies and teachers the photos and other momentoes of their journeys and are starting to make posters to display these. It was such a treat to bring our own bikes, trikes and scooters to school on the last day of Term 1! We loved riding around the dropoff zone with our friends!
